VPHA is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that improves the public’s health in Virginia by strengthening public health practice and promoting sound public health policy.

VPHA exists to achieve significant improvements in public health practice and policy in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Our History

VPHA was founded in 1950 as a state affiliate of the American Public Health Association. For decades, VPHA championed strong public health practice and policies in close partnership with the Virginia Department of Health. More recently, VPHA has partnered with public health programs across the Commonwealth to prepare a new generation of public health professionals and advocates.

Our Work

VPHA fulfills its mission through public health research, rigorous policy analysis, and robust advocacy. We also partner with organizations and institutions that share our values to advance public health priorities. Finally, our members are public health professionals, researchers, and advocates who put our work into practice. They are central to everything we do.
