What We DoOur MissionVPHA is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that improves the public’s health in Virginia by strengthening public health practice, fostering health equity, and promoting sound public health policy. Our VisionVPHA's vision is for Virginia to be the healthiest state in the nation. Our HistoryVPHA was founded in 1950 and is a state affiliate of the American Public Health Association. For decades, VPHA championed strong public health practice and policies in close partnership with the Virginia Department of Health. More recently, VPHA has partnered with public health programs across the Commonwealth to prepare a new generation of public health professionals and advocates. Our Work VPHA fulfills its mission through public health research, rigorous policy analysis, and robust advocacy. We also partner with organizations and institutions that share our values to advance public health priorities. Finally, our members are public health professionals, researchers, and advocates who put our work into practice. They are central to our work. Our Impact VPHA has a tremendous impact on public health in the Commonwealth. In 2023 VPHA achieved important policy victories, hosted a successful annual conference, grew our membership base, launched a mentorship program, and continued to bring members together through many different channels.
