This six hour workshop introduces participants to healthy eating, healthy lifestyles, and makes the concept of “wellness” accessible to families. Participants explore the cycle of obesity and high risk for illness passed on by parents to their children. They are then introduced to an action plan to break this cycle. The action plan incorporates educational and skill building activities for the family and is centered around adopting healthy lifestyles. Action plans topics include key basic items such as: “urban” nutrition, nutritional goals, meal planning, food selection, food preparation, movement and physical fitness, and stress management.
