Advisory CommitteesOur advisory committees help achieve VPHA’s mission of strengthening public health practice and promoting sound public health policy. Policy & Advocacy CommitteeThe Policy & Advocacy Committee helps shape our policy priorities and advocacy efforts. This includes developing our Policy Priorities Survey, conducting policy analysis, and collaborating with organizations that share our values. Communications CommitteeThe Communications Committee helps share our work with public health faculty and students, public health and other health professionals, policymakers, and the public by creating and disseminating messages that promote public health in Virginia. This includes developing our bi-monthly newsletter, maintaining and updating our website, and social media accounts. Professional Development CommitteeThe Professional Development Committee promotes the professional development of our members. This includes hosting educational webinars, the annual conference, and other professional development events. Membership CommitteeThe Membership Committee is responsible for membership recruitment and retainment. Its goal is to develop and maintain a membership base that reflects the professional, racial, and geographic diversity in the public health community. Health Equity Committee The Health Equity Committee ensures that VPHA's mission – to strengthen public health practice and promote sound public health policy – is fulfilled equitably throughout the Commonwealth. The Committee is responsible for conducting VPHA's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) readiness survey, developing and tailoring DEI strategies, and assessing membership demographic data to identify opportunities to diversity VPHA's members and leadership.
